Careers Exploration Blog

One thing I notice is that Commercial Art and Graphic Design has the biggest percentage of major shares, with 25%. That doesn’t surprise me, given that Graphic Design is the most saught after art major, and the major most likely to get a job in graphic design after school.

Fine Arts is the next biggest, which my major is connected to, is 23%. This is also not surprising, due to a vast majority of art majors/minors being under the “Fine Arts” umbrella. This major is another saught after major within the arts, due to it’s openness for opportunity and ability to be able to get a good internship or job right outside of school. You will also have a better chance if you actually go to an actual art school.

Arts, design, entertainment, sports, and media occupations are the biggest named category on the second chart with 20%, showing most of the big industry acceptable careers after schooling, however, “other” is the actual largest category, with a whopping 35% over the others. This is due to the many careers in the arts outside of the norm. A very large majority of art graduates have independent art careers. This surprises, yet not surprises me, because most non-industry careers go uncharted.

What am I going to do with my major? Well, it’s a little rude to UNE, but I am building a Industry standard portfolio, and I am going to transfer to the California Institute of Arts. After that, I’m planning on working in a studio.
